What this blend is
Both Semax and Selank are synthetic heptapeptides developed by the same Russian research tradition. Semax is an ACTH(4-10) analog studied for neuroprotection and cognitive effects, and Selank is a tuftsin analog studied for anxiolytic and mood effects. Both have long-standing regulatory approval in Russia as nasal preparations: Semax as 0.1% nasal drops, Selank as a 0.15% nasal spray. The "Na-" in this blend's name refers to the sodium-salt form of each peptide, the formulation used in those aqueous nasal preparations and the one some research vendors carry pre-mixed in a single vial rather than as separate free-peptide powders.
The pairing is a community convention rather than a studied combination therapy in its own right. Vendors sell it together because the two compounds are frequently used alongside each other, Semax for focus and cognitive effects, Selank for the anxiety that can accompany a stimulating nootropic, not because a blended product has been tested as a single intervention.
The one trial that examined both together
There is a genuine, if narrow, human evidence base for studying these two compounds side by side. Panikratova and colleagues, publishing in Doklady Biological Sciences in 2020, used resting-state fMRI to assess whole-brain functional connectivity in 52 healthy participants before and after a single dose of Semax, Selank, or placebo, focused on amygdala and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex connectivity.[1] This is the trial Selank's own research-notes page describes as its one published human clinical study, and it is also the closest thing to direct evidence for this specific pairing, though it measured brain connectivity patterns, not the subjective or behavioral outcomes most people buying the blend are actually after.
Supporting mechanistic work for Selank includes a 2017 study by Filatova and colleagues in Frontiers in Pharmacology, which looked at Selank's effect on GABAergic gene expression in a human neuroblastoma cell line and found no direct effect on GABA-system mRNA levels on its own, though it appeared to modestly enhance the effect of a GABAergic drug tested alongside it.[2] For Semax, human evidence outside the connectomic study is dominated by stroke rehabilitation research. A 2018 trial by Gusev and colleagues followed 110 ischemic stroke patients and found that Semax increased plasma BDNF and was associated with faster motor recovery, a population and context quite different from the cognitive-enhancement use most vendor listings market it for.[3]
Reading the evidence honestly
Both compounds have real human data, which puts them ahead of many research peptides on this site. But the data for each was mostly generated in a different context than the one the blend is marketed for, stroke rehabilitation and single-dose brain-imaging studies, not sustained cognitive enhancement or anxiety management in healthy adults. And no study has tested the two compounds combined as a therapeutic intervention; the Panikratova trial dosed them separately within the same protocol; it did not test them mixed together. Anyone evaluating this blend should read both individual research notes pages linked above rather than treating the combined product as its own studied entity.
