Most of the time, yes. The price gap has more to do with order volume and how much a company spends on its own brand than with what's inside the vial, so the price tells you very little in either direction. What does tell you something is the Certificate of Analysis (COA).
The thirty-second check
Open the vendor's certificate of analysis for that compound. You can find them on the vendor's website, sometimes in an on-site library and sometimes on the product page. After purchase, some vendors include a print of the COA with the order, or have it printed on the vial itself. Does it name a batch, or only the compound? Is there an actual purity figure on it?
