We Counted Every CJC-1295 Study on PubMed. The Real Research Stopped in 2009.

CJC-1295 shows up in roughly 33 PubMed results. We opened every one of them to see how many actually studied what the compound does. Five did, and every one of those five shares an author with the compound's original developer. Nothing since 2009 has tried to replicate them.

What we did

CJC-1295 is one of the more talked-about growth hormone secretagogues in research circles, and it's easy to assume that much conversation means a matching pile of published science behind it. So we searched PubMed for every indexed result mentioning CJC-1295, about 33 papers as of this month, and opened each one to see what it actually studied.

Most coverage of a peptide's "evidence" reports the total result count and stops there. We wanted the number underneath that number, how many of those 33 papers actually test what CJC-1295 does in a body, versus mentioning it, detecting it, or listing it alongside a dozen other compounds.

The distinction that matters

A citation isn't a study

A paper can reference CJC-1295 by name in its abstract without ever administering it, measuring it, or drawing a conclusion about it. Most of the papers that mention CJC-1295 are doing exactly that, using it as one example in a longer list, or trying to detect it in a blood or urine sample rather than studying its effects. Counting all of that as "research on CJC-1295" inflates the evidence base without adding any actual evidence.

What we found

Five papers actually test what CJC-1295 does, and all five were published between 2005 and 2009. It was first identified and named in a 2005 rat study out of ConjuChem, the Montreal company that developed it, which showed the modified growth hormone-releasing factor bound to albumin and stayed in circulation for over 24 hours (Jetté et al., 2005). A 2006 human trial in healthy adults followed, run jointly by ConjuChem and researcher Lawrence Frohman, showing prolonged growth hormone and IGF-1 elevation after dosing (Teichman et al., 2006). A mouse study that same year showed the compound could restore normal growth in animals that couldn't make their own growth hormone-releasing hormone (Alba et al., 2006). A second human trial, later in 2006 and from Frohman's lab alone, looked at how the compound affected the body's natural growth hormone release pattern (Ionescu & Frohman, 2006). And a 2009 study, also from Frohman's group, measured how a single dose changed a broader panel of blood proteins in eleven healthy men (Sackmann-Sala et al., 2009).

Every one of those five shares an author with either ConjuChem, the company that developed CJC-1295, or with Frohman, who ran three of the five trials himself. We found no outside lab that independently set out to test the compound's effects after 2009, seventeen years ago now. One partial exception, a 2009 mouse study from the National Institutes of Health, used CJC-1295 as a lab tool rather than as its subject, to test an unrelated question about brain receptors and growth, and the compound worked as expected in that outside lab's hands (Gautam et al., 2009).

The rest of the roughly 33 results split into two larger piles. The bigger one is anti-doping detection science, close to a dozen papers developing lab methods to catch CJC-1295 in blood, urine, or equine plasma, aimed at sports testing labs rather than at understanding what the compound does, spanning 2010 through 2024. The other is broad review articles, several published this year, that list CJC-1295 alongside a handful of other peptides like BPC-157 and tesamorelin as part of a wider survey, without running new research on any of them individually. One more paper, from 2016, is a qualitative look at how women were discussing CJC-1295 use on bodybuilding forums, an interesting note on who was talking about the compound early on, but not evidence of what it does in a body.

What this means for you right now

This isn't a case where nobody has looked. Five real studies exist, and they showed a consistent, real biological effect, growth hormone and IGF-1 rose after CJC-1295 administration in both animals and healthy adult volunteers. That part holds up. What doesn't hold up is any sense that the evidence has grown or been checked by outside eyes since 2009. If you're researching CJC-1295 today, you're largely working from the same five papers a researcher in 2010 had in front of them, run by the people who had every reason to want it to work.

That's not disqualifying, plenty of legitimate compounds sit on a thin, old evidence base while research funding moves elsewhere. It's a reason to read the actual five papers rather than a summary of "over 30 studies," and to treat any claim built on the larger number with real skepticism. What to watch next

CJC-1295 with and without DAC, the two common formulations, are both included in what we counted here, and neither has drawn a new independent trial in over a decade. If that changes, or if any of the review papers we found this year turn into something more than a list, we'll cover it.
